My name is Mark Travis and I have been a credentialed sports writer since I was 15. That’s when I started my first website, But The Game Is On, which was dedicated to covering the Kobe Bryant’s Lakers and Michael Crabtree’s Texas Tech Red Raiders.
After just a few weeks I was hooked by the idea of sharing all of my thoughts and opinions about sports online. In the summer of 2009, I applied to cover USA Basketball’s training camp for my site and to my surprise, I was approved under one condition: I had to bring my mom with me.
Since then, I’ve covered every Team USA training camp, been credentialed for the 2013 and 2014 NBA Finals, joined the Pro Basketball Writers Association, graduated from Oklahoma State University with a B.S. in Sports Media, been namedropped on ESPN by Jay Bilas regarding my longform feature on Marcus Smart, talked to Kobe Bryant about his legacy, sat next to Larry Bird at a practice, and been shown interviewing Mike Conley during a live ABC telecast.
Now I write about basketball and futbol for Passages of Play. To learn more about me and how my career started, please read this.
