Strategic communications
Media Consultancy
Strategic communications for businesses, outlets and individuals who want to be heard, and remembered.
For 15 years, my job has been figuring out what stories need to be told and getting them in front of people who want to hear them. After creating my own website as a high school sophomore, I became a credentialed media member covering the NBA as a 16-year-old, giving me vast experience working in fast-paced, pressure-filled environments in locker rooms and on press row. Now I am putting that experience to work for you.
I work with businesses, media outlets and individuals who want to refine their strategic communications approach and maximize their media footprint. Whether you are launching something new, tailoring a brand to a new audience, or simply want more from the platforms you already have, I bring a newsroom’s urgency, a reporter’s eye for angles and an editor’s discipline to every project. I approach consultancy the same way I approach a story on deadline: locate and highlight what matters most, cut the fluff and bring it to the world.
How I can help
- Social media strategy I’ll help you find a voice, a schedule and an audience that suits your brand. I aim to build a long-term follower base, not chase trends that boost likes and views immediately but fade once someone else finds the next one. Identity and consistency win over the peaks and valleys of trying to go viral.
- Website design I build fast, clean sites that are functional first and aesthetic as a bonus. The navigation will be simple, the details comprehensive. Sites I’ve designed

Mots de Mark - Branding refinement If your name, logo, tone or story feels off, I’ll help you tighten it up so that everything you put out, from a logo to a press release, looks and sounds like it came from you.
Why work with me
I’ve been on the other side of the inbox. As an NBA columnist for the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, I’ve covered everything from the NBA Finals to the Olympic Games. I have written and read a lot of pitches in my career, so I know which ones get a response and which ones get deleted after the first line.
I also don’t recommend anything I haven’t done myself. I designed and built Passages of Play, Mots de Mark and this site, including the branding, the newsletters and the subscription systems that run them. Before that, I started But The Game Is On in my high school’s journalism classroom and grew it into a partnership with USA Today Sports Media Group.
And I have the training to back it up. I earned a B.S. in Sports Media from Oklahoma State’s School of Media & Strategic Communications, and I’m comfortable working in WordPress, the Adobe Creative Suite and with audio and video production.
